What Is Body Contouring Surgery?
Body contouring is a group of surgical procedures that remove excess fat, excess skin, or both, and reshape the underlying structure so the result looks proportional and natural. It is not a weight loss method. These procedures work best for patients who are at or near a stable weight and are dealing with something that will not respond to further effort, whether that is a pocket of fat that has always been there or loose skin left behind after a major change.
Body Procedures We Offer
Our surgeon performs a full range of body procedures, including:
- Liposuction to remove localized fat deposits that resist diet and exercise, commonly the thighs, arms, and abdomen in women and the lower abdomen and flanks in men. Skin tightening techniques may be added when there is mild laxity.
- Abdominoplasty, often called a tummy tuck, to correct excess or stretch marked skin across the lower abdomen and to repair separation of the abdominal muscles that frequently follows pregnancy.
- Brachioplasty, or arm lift, for the loose, redundant upper arm skin that often remains after substantial weight loss.
- Thighplasty, or thigh lift, to remove excess skin and fat on the thighs, which can restore shape and also relieve the rashes, chafing, and infections that redundant skin can cause.
- Post-bariatric body contouring for patients who have lost significant weight after bariatric surgery or through diet and exercise and are left with loose skin around the trunk and torso.

No. These procedures are designed to reshape the body, not to reduce overall weight. Results are generally best for patients who are already at or near a stable weight and are dealing with fat or skin that will not respond to further diet and exercise.
What can I do about loose skin after major weight loss?
Loose skin after significant weight loss usually requires surgical removal, since it does not tighten on its own. Depending on where it is concentrated, options may include abdominoplasty, brachioplasty, thighplasty, or broader post-bariatric contouring across the trunk.
What is the difference between liposuction and a tummy tuck?
Liposuction removes fat but does not address loose skin or separated abdominal muscles. Abdominoplasty removes excess skin and repairs the muscle separation that often follows pregnancy. Some patients benefit from both, and our surgeon will explain which may apply to you.
