Vascular Lesion Treatment

Vascular Lesion Treatment
Small red, purple, or blue vessels near the surface of the skin can make the face look flushed and the legs look older than they feel. Vascular lesions such as broken capillaries, spider veins, and cherry angiomas are very common, and they do not respond to creams or makeup alone. At Hawaii Dermatology & Surgery, we use advanced dual-wavelength laser technology to treat visible vessels on the face and body with little to no downtime. Patients across Oahu visit our Aiea and Kailua offices for clearer, more even-toned skin.

What Are Vascular Lesions?
Vascular lesions are visible clusters or lines of blood vessels in or just beneath the skin. Most are harmless, but they can be persistent and are a common cosmetic concern. They can be influenced by genetics, sun exposure, aging, hormonal changes, and conditions such as rosacea.
Conditions We Treat
- Facial redness and broken capillaries: Fine red lines often found around the nose, cheeks, and chin
- Rosacea-related redness: Persistent flushing and visible vessels associated with rosacea
- Spider veins: Small red, blue, or purple veins, often on the legs and face
- Cherry angiomas: Small, bright red bumps that commonly appear with age
- Spider angiomas: A central red spot with fine vessels extending outward
- Venous lakes: Small dark blue or purple bumps, often on the lips and ears
How Laser Treatment Works
Our laser platform combines two wavelengths so treatment can be matched to the size and depth of each vessel. A 532 nm wavelength is well absorbed by the hemoglobin in small, superficial vessels, making it effective for fine facial capillaries, redness, and cherry angiomas. A 1064 nm wavelength reaches deeper, larger vessels such as leg veins and darker blue vessels.
In both cases, the laser energy heats the blood inside the targeted vessel, causing it to collapse. Over the following weeks, your body naturally reabsorbs the treated vessel and it fades from view. Built-in cooling protects the surrounding skin throughout the session.
What to Expect
Most sessions are quick, often taking fifteen to thirty minutes depending on the area. Patients typically feel a brief snap of warmth with each pulse. Afterward, the area may look red or slightly swollen, and some vessels may appear darker or briefly bruised before they fade. Most patients return to their normal activities the same day. Small lesions may clear in one session, while larger areas or deeper vessels may benefit from a series of treatments.
Keeping Your Results
Treated vessels typically do not return, but new ones can form over time, particularly with sun exposure or rosacea flares. Daily broad-spectrum sunscreen, gentle skincare, and periodic maintenance treatments may help keep your skin clear. Our team can also discuss options for managing underlying rosacea as part of your plan.

FAQ
FAQs
Answers to your frequently asked questions.
How many treatments will I need?
It depends on the type, size, and number of vessels. Small lesions such as cherry angiomas may clear in a single session, while facial redness or leg veins may benefit from a series of treatments spaced several weeks apart.
Is vascular laser treatment painful?
Most patients feel a brief snap of warmth with each pulse. Built-in cooling helps keep the skin comfortable, and no numbing or recovery time is usually needed.
Will treated vessels come back?
Vessels that are successfully treated typically do not return, but new ones can form over time. Sun protection and occasional maintenance treatments may help keep results looking their best.
Can laser treatment help with rosacea?
Laser treatment may reduce the visible vessels and persistent redness associated with rosacea. It works best as part of a broader plan, and our team can discuss skincare and medical options alongside it.
